Destination – Somewhere in Paradise

This little island lost in the Andaman Sea no doubt deserves its second name – Virgin Island, for its untamed and unmarred landscape and beauty. It is no wonder tourists call this place paradise, with its welcoming sun and sea, white sandy beaches and desert island atmosphere. If you yearn for a great day out in a most relaxing fashion, visiting Koh Tachai is a must. Over its many years of attracting visitors, it has earned glowing reviews.

Since 1998, Koh Tachai has been part of the Similan Islands archipelago and Mu Ko Similan National Park. The island is open to visitors from November until April and – just as other national park islands – is closed for wildlife preservation and protection for the rest of the year. Koh Tachai is hardly overcrowded, even during high season, as it has neither tourist attractions nor facilities such as hotels, cafes and souvenir shops. When it comes to snorkeling and scuba diving however, Koh Tachai should be your number one choice.

Every tiny tropical corner of Koh Tachai is easily accessible on foot, as the island is just 2.5 km long and 1 km short. It is hardly surprising that a location this small in southern Thailand has been overshadowed by the hugely popular Similan Islands. Professional divers however have always favoured the smaller islands such as this one. Every year thousands of experienced divers and beginners alike arrive at Koh Tachai by safari boats seeking the greatest diving experience in the area.

One-day tours to Koh Tachai are very popular among tourists, as they offer a great way to see the unique and unspoilt nature of this area, to explore tropical beauties of the underwater world, and to enjoy a day on a gorgeous beach in the eastern part of the island. Your journey to Koh Tachai will offer plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling and walking along the spectacular nature trails.

Diving and snorkeling at Koh Tachai is a lifelong memory. Imagine you are inside an aquarium with millions of fish of all sizes, shapes and colours. You may even meet a turtle, a leopard shark or a manta ray, which is exciting for even the most experienced divers. If you climb to the viewpoint at the coast, you can often see small black-finned reef sharks playing in the shallow waters below.

Explore the island, follow a nature trail through the local rainforest, and enjoy the beauty of the tropical environment, typical of this part of South Asia. Walk on crystal white sand on the beach and dive into the warm azure waters of the Andaman Sea. Take hundreds of photos of your holiday in paradise and shoot a video of the local hairy-legged crabs that emit the funniest sounds, best described as chicken chuckles.

Here is a little secret of a great Koh Tachai swimming and diving holiday: plan your tour for when the tide is low. In the low tide of morning or noon, the island beach will lie beneath your feet in all its divine beauty, which is hidden under water during high tide.

Koh Tachai is an idyllic place for an unforgettable vacation, far from the maddening crowd. If you have already visited the Similan Islands and are currently looking for a tourist destination off the beaten track, Koh Tachai is definitely a great place to visit. Whatever you choose to do here, you will enjoy a day in earthly paradise.
