Beaches, coral reefs, sea life – and much more on Krabi Islands

Krabi Province – otherwise known as the Country of a Thousand Islands – in the south of Thailand is a fantastic place, famous for its outstanding beauty. Without a doubt, it is the most fascinating holiday destination in the country and surely the Mecca for tourists, with its white sandy beaches, palm tree groves, crystal clear waters and refreshing sea breezes.

Krabi Islands have gained popularity in recent years, and world-renowned hotel chains keep popping up along the coasts. These days the largest islands offer luxury accomodation, the best facilities, great service and an exotic touch.

The Krabi Islands tour from Phuket usually includes visits to Talay Waek, Koh Poda, Koh Hong and Phra Nang Cave beach, as well as relaxing breaks for swimming in the local beaches.

Koh Hong is a great destination for those who are looking for a winning 'beach + sea' combination. Koh Hong beach is secluded from the rest of the island territory by limestone cliffs, and it will give you a feeling of complete isolation from civilisation. Koh Hong may seem to be a desert island, as you will hardly see any tourists in this part of the island – which lets you perfectly enjoy swimming and diving among coral reefs and tropical fishes.

Along the Railay Peninsula, Phra Nang Cave beach, dedicated to Phra Nang Princess, is a climber’s paradise. Any time you glance up at the cliffs, you will spot climbers conquering the cliff face. The legend of Phra Nang is rooted deep in the island's history, and the locals still worship at the cave of the Princess. If you decide to visit the Princess Cave, remember to behave with due respect.

Another jewel in the Krabi Islands crown is Talay Waek, an island made of three rocks connected by a sunny path of snow-white sand. One of the rocks has a curious bulge at its top that earned it the name 'Chicken Head' for the strong and strange resemblance. When the tide is high, Chicken Head becomes an isolated rock with water all around; when the tide falls, water exposes a path leading from Chicken Head to the neighbouring rocks.

Koh Poda Island, less than 1 km long, is a flourishing wildlife area ringed by towering palm trees. Its sandy beaches, in true Krabi style, are perfect for swimming and diving, and you are sure to find coral reefs only 20 meters from the coast.
