Surrender to the natural beauty of Khao Lak wildlife park

About 100 kilometers north of Phuket lies Phang-Nga province and its splendid wildlife park. A trip to the park will take you to the heart of the Living Edens of Thailand and immerse you in mangrove jungle. If you dream about seeing a special place deep in the wilderness, unspoilt by man, and breathing crystal clear air of the jungle – this place is for you. This is Thailand, this is Khao Lak. The great river of Time will never wash away your memories of this place, with its majestic waterfalls, divine jungles and flourishing animal kingdom.

The tour to the wildlife sanctuary offers you two great activities: elephant trekking and whitewater rafting. Locals will tell you that rafting has been the only proper way to travel this place for centuries. You do not have to worry about strong currents or rough water, as local men at the helm will skillfully steer your raft through the wild waters and among fallen trees. Your safety is your guide's priority, so all you have to do is relax and marvel at the beauty of the scenery around you. On your way you will see amazing animals and intricate bridges made of nothing but a few bamboo sticks.

We are sure you will also love elephant trekking in the local jungle, through winding narrow paths and raw rubber plantations. The giant elephants will surprise you with their kind-hearted natures, full of grace and elegance. In accordance with the laws of nature, they will treat you the way you treat them. And you may even get to see elephants dance in the sun.

Elephants are well-respected animals in Thailand for their unique skills. For centuries they have been protecting the kingdom from enemies. Nowadays these animals dedicate their lives to work until 65, when they get to retire comfortably and live to celebrate their 100th anniversaries.

The elephants will take you deep into the wilderness of the jungle. You will see raw rubber plantations and the origin of latex pillows and matresses. It is not surprising that Thailand is currently one of the leaders in the latex product market. Rubber industry in Thailand is nationalised, and rubber trees occupy a fair share of the country's territory. Tree trunks are cut and sap is collected manually. It is an intricate process and an interesting one to witness as you tour the Khao Lak plantations.

As you enter the labyrinth of natural caves in Khao Lak wildlife sanctuary, you will marvel at  the rocky cliffs and the statue of reclining Buddha. Your guide will show you some the hidden places worth visiting and share stories of Buddhist monks.

After visiting a few grottoes, you will head for the local waterfall and enjoy a refreshing moment at its cooling waters. Rest in the shade of exotic trees while contemplating the mighty waters dashing from rocky cliffs into the unknown.

Phang-Nga has a lot more to offer yet. You will pay an unforgettable visit to the Phang-Nga turtle and marine life conservation units. These are an intricate system of water pipes immersed in huge concrete reservoirs of crystal water that host millions of sea creatures: giant Pacific black and red bass, sea anemones, sea unicorns, boxfish, and turtles gathering close to the glass walls and eyeing their curious visitors. You may be interested to know that in nature baby turtles are released into the sea when they are three months old. The turtle conservation unit in Phang-Nga allows them to grow peacefully in favourable conditions, while in the wild only 50 babies out of 200-300 stand a chance to survive.

After these trips, you will savour a Thai lunch served at a local restaurant. The tour allows for plenty of time to share all your impressions with your friends, while also sharing some delicious seafood.
